Key aspects of the role:
The Industrial Issues Manager (Packaging) will develop into the specialist point of contact on a range of industry packaging issues. He/she will manage and develop the key group for member firms operating in the packaging sector. The role offers wide contact with industry at top level, deep insight into the operation of UK and EU governmental institutions, engagement with key external organisations, involvement with the media and a strong international dimension.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and leading a number of high-level initiatives to improve the visibility and reputation of the packaging industry's credentials. In addition, he / she will be the representative on the relevant external groups/committees for packaging. There is a European context to the role due to the liaison activity with EU government institutions, which may involve some overseas travel
⦁ Significant commercial or industrial experience, preferably in a packaging and/or manufacturing sector
⦁ Capable of presenting both technical and business issues
⦁ Capable of co-ordinating and managing projects to conclusion
⦁ Experience of working in a membership environment with both executive and non-executive officers, and experience of briefing and advising senior members of staff.
⦁ Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
⦁ A strategic thinker and effective networker and influencer, with a track record of developing, managing, and delivering successful campaigns.
⦁ Good IT skills
⦁ Professional qualification in a technical or business discipline
⦁ Evidence of a basic scientific literacy
⦁ Excellent written English skills.
⦁ Excellent interpersonal skills with good written and verbal communication skills
⦁ Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
⦁ Ability to handle business sensitive and complex information
⦁ Capable of building relationships with colleagues and member companies
⦁ Well organised and disciplined project management skills
⦁ Comfortable working with people at all organisational levels
⦁ Resourceful and flexible
