A small specialist school for children aged 5 to 11 in Oxford are looking for a Teaching Assistant to support the social skills, emotional wellbeing and mental health of the students within their school. The school provide an alternative education for children who have social & emotional difficulties such as anxiety and school refusal due to developmental trauma and adverse childhood experiences, as well as specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. The Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Support Assistant will be working closely with trained professionals including Psychologists and Therapists and will have the opportunity to shadow their work.

The school provides an alternative education for children who have social & emotional difficulties such as anxiety and school refusal due to developmental trauma and adverse childhood experiences, as well as specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. The Teaching assistant will be supporting children who come to us often feeling confused, with low self-esteem and disengaged from schooling. Your role as a Mental Health Support Assistant is to give them an education that is tailored to their individual needs, enabling and empowering them to understand that 'great minds think differently', to gain confidence in themselves and progress their learning.
They are a progressive, compassionate, values-based school with a strong ethos and a highly skilled team who are passionate about what they do. Your priority as a Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Support Assistant will be the children's social, emotional and mental health development.
The Teaching Assistant/Mental Health Support Assistant ideally will have a degree in a related field or experience working with young people. Many of the children have experienced trauma and require someone with resilience and an open-mind to support their mental health challenges.
